Opportunity and Eurosif: Unique opportunity to research and coordinate high-profile efforts on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) issues in a small, fast-paced, non-profit organisation at the European level. Eurosif is a multi-cultural organisation with a current team of five individuals. We are presently looking for a Research Manager who will be able to conduct and coordinate Eurosif research activities. The job is located in central Paris. Eurosif is the leading pan-European association dedicated to developing sustainable and responsible investment (SRI) across the European Union on behalf of its affiliate members. All reports and deliverables focus on European-wide issues. The 80 affiliate members of Eurosif include leading pension funds, asset managers, academic institutes, NGOs, trade unions and research companies, representing investable assets totalling over €1 trillion. Eurosif is governed by the National Sustainable Investment forums (SIFs) located in Europe; through their role as Board Members, Eurosif ensures that its overall programme works with and is complementary to the existing activities of National SIFs in Europe. Eurosif's work includes a focus across financial asset classes - equity and fixed income markets, microfinance, renewable energy, property, private equity and hedge funds - all centred around the industry trends and future legislation affecting this space. The key benefits that Eurosif affiliate members receive include EU interfacing, SRI information and European wide initiatives that integrate Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) issues into the financial services sector. Accountability Accountable to the Executive Director Main responsibilities · Responsible for Eurosif’s research studies at a European-wide level, · Manage research projects and activities with member affiliates, · Liaise with Communications department on aspects related to research content, · Assist ED with public policy research on ESG matters. Major tasks Research in the SRI market field (40% of time approx) · Write and coordinate Eurosif’s main studies, including European SRI Market Study which details the European SRI market, trends, etc. and studies on specific segment(s) within the financial chains (corporate pension funds, high net worth individuals, venture capital, etc.). · Monitor any developments in the SRI field to keep the team informed, and to produce the “Top Research Pick” every quarter which lists the most interesting and pertinent publicly available research papers in the areas of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) risks and opportunities. · Respond to requests from ED, board, and member affiliates on specific questions related to the SRI field. Project management (35%) · Oversee Eurosif research programme. This includes: - Budget planning - Programme planning - Methodology development - Populating / updating data base - Assist ED with project funding (write sponsorship proposals) - Coordinate various partners across Europe · Coordinate and review/edit Eurosif sector/thematic reports with research partner and steering committee formed out of member affiliates. · Monitor the development of the European SRI Transparency Guidelines, an initiative that awards a logo to fund managers who have successfully met the criteria. This includes monitoring the partnering with independent third parties for the audits of the guidelines. Communication (15%) · Speak at conferences across Europe, represent Eurosif in particular to present results of its research. · Assist ED to prepare his speeches at conferences with regards to ESG trends. · Assist head of communication with design / publications and PR efforts related to presentation of research. · Liaise with member affiliates on research questions. · Assist head of communication with updating Eurosif’s website on research activities, etc. European Union Public Affairs (10%) · Monitor EU institutions regarding sustainability and financial issues for public policy activities. · Coordinate the Lobbying Advisory Group, formed by some of Eurosif’s member affiliates. · Coordinate Eurosif participation in any EU-linked projects that might arise. · Draft public policy papers and responses to EC’s consultation on various SRI/CSR issues. · Write the EU Insider, a members-only document summarising public affairs activity by Eurosif. Required qualifications · University degree in international relations, business or finance. · Solid understanding of current issues relating to environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues – an understanding of ESG issues related to sustainable investing a major plus. · Strong project management skills, including the development of work plans, timelines and responsibilities. · Minimum of five years of work experience and preferably in a private sector or multilateral work environment. · Team-oriented with an ability to work in a fast-paced environment and juggle several deadlines at once. · Excellent analytical skills and strong project management skills (good excel proficiency). · Excellent communication skills and fluency in both written and spoken English. · Self-disciplined, ability to work independently and make decisions as Eurosif’s Executive Director (ED) frequently travels for business.
